Role of proliferative microglia (J.B., F.P., N.P., (...)

The microglial reaction is always present in nervous system pathologies. Microglial cells amplify lesions by releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species. They also participate to neuroprotection and/or repair by secreting anti-inflammatory and neurotrophic factors and by phagocytosis of lesional byproducts. Recently, we associated neuroprotective functions to the cell proliferation stage. We observed induction of RAE-1 expression during cell proliferation in accordance with pathological models. Our aim is to study (1) the interactions between NK, microglia, recruited monocytes and neuronal cells under experimental pathological conditions, and (2) the consequences of RAE-1 expression inhibition induced by RNA interference on microglial reaction and functions in vitro and in vivo.
